Free Martha Stewart Living, The Economist, WSJ and more…

Posted by on Feb 20, 2015

I love magazines.  I find it relaxing to flip through their pages.  I find their stories inspiriting, the imagery engaging and shopping guides entertaining.  I used to read them frequently when I needed to kill some time; especially when my kids were playing at the YMCA or while I waited for one of my kids to finish up a class or lesson.  Then all of a sudden, I didn’t have as much time for them (I think this has something to do with the new baby that is in the house.  He always wants to be held, fed or changed.) Feeling guilty that I had purchased subscriptions for magazines I wasn’t reading, I slowly let all of the subscriptions lapse.  I could handle letting go of all of my magazines, except for Martha Stewart Living.  Desperate to find it at a good price, I started wandering from site to site trying to find a good deal.  Finally I came across a post at slickdeals.net, saying that it was available through rewardsurvey.com.  I was reluctant at first to try rewardsurvey.com (afraid it could be a scam) but after several people on the post swore that it was legitimate, I gave it a try. Registration was easy.  It only took a minute or two and they didn’t ask for any private information (no DOB or credit card numbers, home address, phone numbers etc.).  Then I took a short five minute survey and earned $20 reward points (reward points can only be redeemed at rewardsurvey.com).  You earn $20 for each survey you complete.  There is a new survey posted every week.  There is only one survey posted at a time, so to earn $40 it takes two weeks, for $60 it takes three weeks, etc..  Martha Stewart Living was $30, so it took two weeks to earn it.  Once I earned enough credits, I selected my magazine, filled out some basic information and patiently waited for my magazine to arrive.  It took 4-6 weeks for the magazine to arrive and when it finally did, I was thrilled.  I logged onto Martha Stewart Living’s customer service page and verified that there was nothing strange about the subscription and indeed there wasn’t.   Feeling good about my new magazine and eager to share my good fortune, I then ordered a subscription for my mother (which she thoroughly enjoyed). I usually do the brief survey’s in the morning with my cup of coffee.  They only take a few minutes and with my credits I have been able to purchase a subscription to the Wall Street Journal (Mon – Sat Edition) and the Economist.     The information that was required for the magazine subscription was: Name Job Title Company Address City State Zip Code Country Email Address Phone & Fax numbers  (optional – which I did not provide)   The other magazines/newspapers that are available are: 10 Reward Points Details (10 issues) Fast Company (10 issues) Inc. (10 issues) $12 Reward Points W (10 issues) $15 Reward Points Better Homes and Garden (digital edition – 24 issues) Entrepreneur (12 issues) Essence (12 issues) Family Circle (digital – 24 issues) Family Fun (digital – 20 issues) GQ (12 issues) Parents (digital – 24 issues) People en Espanol (11 issues) Vanidades en Espanol (11 issues) Wired (12 issues) $20 Reward Points Cigar Aficionado (6 issues) More (digital – 20 issues) Self...

FREE Educator Discount Card from Barnes and Noble

Posted by on Feb 19, 2015

Homeschool Teacher Discount Cards with Barnes & Noble As a homeschooling parent I frequently purchase workbooks, books, study aides and more as part of our children’s education.   Curriculum is expensive, especially when purchasing for several kids.  We order a lot of our materials from Amazon, however, we still purchase enough materials from our local Barnes and Noble store. For study guides and other books, I often want to browse the selection in person.  A while back I  stumbled upon the Barnes and Noble Educator Discount card while visiting our nearby store and always one for a sale, I immediately signed up. What is the Barnes & Noble Education Discount Card? Barnes & Noble offers an Educator Discount card for teachers, including homeschooling teaching parents, allowing them a 20% discount on most educational purchases.  Card holders may also receive 25% off Publisher’s List Books during Education Appreciation Days along with other e-mail promotional specials. Who is eligible? If you are a homeschooling parent (or an educator at a public or private school) teaching pre-K through grade 12 you are eligible for the card. How do I apply for the card? You may apply for the card at a Barnes and Noble store.  The application can not be completed online. Are there any Fees Associated with the Barnes and Noble Educator Card? The Barnes and Noble Educator Card is completely free for those that are eligible.  There are no application or annual fees. What Proof do I need? If you are a public or private classroom teacher, you will need a valid school ID or pay stub.  For homeschooling parents, you will need to provide a copy of your Letter of Intent or your current HSLDA membership card, names and grades of children currently homeschooled, a completed application with your address and a valid photo ID.  Despite teaching in public schools for years, I only recently obtained a Barnes and Noble Educator’s Card using my current HSLDA member ID along with the completed  application and my driver’s license. What Purchases May I use with My Barnes and Noble Educator Discount Card? You may use your card to purchase workbooks, textbooks, study aides, educational toys, games and more as long as it is related to your child’s education.  Some exclusions apply including:  “Café items; Music; DVDs; Blu-ray Discs; Gift Cards; eGift cards; periodicals; textbooks; digital content (including but not limited to eBooks, digital magazines, and periodicals); NOOK® or NOOK related accessories; other hardware and electronics; software; Rosetta Stone product; downloadable audiobooks in MP3 or any other format; products or services provided online at BN.com via Barnes & Noble BookQuest LLC.” (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/bn-at-school/faq.asp?pid=29904) May I Combine Other Discounts and Promotions with the Educator’s Card? The B&N Educator’s Discount Card cannot be combined with other coupons or membership discounts. Does My Card Expire?  Your educational discount card is good for two years from activation.  After two years you may renew if you qualify (same qualifications as previously stated). How Long Does it Take to Receive My Card? Once approved you receive your card immediately.  Mine took only a few minutes to process and a short while later I used it to purchase a stack of Kumon books, a Peterson’s Egghead Vocabulary Study Guide and a few picture books. Is there a Limit to the Number of Purchases I May Use with this Card?  As of...
